Hi!
I have been using a T42 as my main machine for some time. But I do not want to carry it around when I go to a conference. So I was wondering whether it is possible to just slip the 2.5" HDD out of the T42 and into an X series machine before I go to any such conference.
Will it work? Shall WinXP boot properly in the X series ThinkPad if I just slip in a different Hard disk. I guess this forum might have several person who routinely does this, if at all possible. And in that case, can you please elaborate what steps are necessary to make this possible. To prevent any BIOS error code, etc.
Also, what would be the least X series machine that will allow this, as I have never used a X machine and I shall have to buy one for this purpose only.
Regards

Re: slip a 2.5" HDD out from T42 in to X series ThinkPa
I tried to use a X30 imaged drive in a X21 once and it Windows wouldn't get past the startup screen.bhuiyan wrote:Hi!

Even if there is image compatibility, physically I would guess only the older X30-series models can take the 2.5" HDD (as boot drive).
The current X40-series uses 1.8" HDD...
I guess you can use the 2.5" HDD adapter to insert it into the Ultrabay Slim bay (located in the UltraBase portable dock for the X40-series notebooks). But that would not be the boot drive, and plus the X40 + UltraBase combination is quite a bit thicker than a T42
