Rescue And Recovery 3.0 Installation Error

#1 Post by adam777 » Wed Sep 14, 2005 8:51 am

Hello all.
I've recently tried to update my rescue and recovery software from the latest version in the 2.x branch to the new 3.0 version VIA SOFTWARE INSTALLER.
The software installer showed me the available 240MB package so i've D\L it and as soon as the D\L procedure was over the installation process began.
Somewhere in the beginning of the process i marked i was UPGRADING an existing software so the installation program deleted my previous version (i think - no longer in add/remove programs) and began the installation of the new one.
Everything went fine until the installation reached the "Writing system registry values" phase where it gave me the following error:

Code: Select all

Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0\CLSID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact support personnel.
Afterwards, the installtion process rollback so the software won't install.
I've rebooted my PC and tried all over again (via software installer) but got the same results - the installation process won't complete... (This time i didn't have any choice of upgrading etc.).

Some details:
- IBM R40 (2723-EG4, if it matters...)
- Windows XP Pro. SP2, fully updated.
- All IBM drivers fully updated (minus access connection and system migration assistant).
- On the installation process, i choose NOT to install the optional client security solution, just the rescue and recovery feature.

Thanks alot in advance, Adam.

I have not tried the upgrade of Rescue and Recovery yet, but the following may solve your problem. Please note that I have done the following for various programs in the past, but I am not a registry editor expert. Editing the registry carries some risk. It may be wise to set a system restore point before you begin.

You can change access to the key by launching regedt32 (as an Administrator) from Start > Run > regedt32. Right click on the key and choose Permissions... . Make sure your administrator user id is listed, and make it have full control. If you don't see your administrator user id listed, choose Add, and add the administrator user id. You may have to click on Advanced and make the admininstrator (yourself) the owner. You should reboot to make sure the changes take effect.

Note: Sometimes to delete a registry key, if you should ever desire to do so - requires you to change permissions first.

Thanks, GomJabbar.
However, this is exactly the problem (forgot to mention it before...):
I, as the administrator, DO have full access to this key...
As for deleting the key - i must admit, i'm a little concerned due to the fact i do not have any version of Rapid Restore at the moment - as i've mentioned: 2.x is gone, 3.x won't install and i'm in between.

Thanks again, Adam.

Did you launch regedt32 and verify that you have full control of the key? I've seen where even as Administrator, I could not delete the key until I gave the Administrator "Full Control".

I just now read something on the General HARDWARE/SOFTWARE questions forum that may help.

I will check it later.
Thanks once again.

* EDIT *
I've installed the full 2.x package (385MB), then uninstalled it and tried to install 3.x from both the full package (462MB) and the software installer package (238MB) without any success - same problem.
I'll try to re-install 2.x and over-install with 3.x (although this was basically the initial state...).
Anyway, i've also contacted IBM support and await their reply.
Let's hope for the best :D

Whenever I try toinstall RnR (2 or 3), I get the following error: "Error 25014. There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6." When I first tried to upgrade to 3, it removed 2 and the installer produced the same error before finishing the installation. I was unable to revert because the RnR 2 installer released in May gives the same result. I have a T43.
