Try this. Right click on an open area of the desktop. Choose: Properties > Settings > Advanced > Displays > Panel, and make sure Scale image to panel size is checked. Also make sure you are running Native Resolution. For example, a XGA's display Native Resolution is 1024 X 768 (it's probably listed as Max. supported resolution under Panel that you went to above).

Which model ThinkPad do you have, and which display adapter (ie. ATI Mobility Radeon 9000) do you have? Maybe you need to update or reinstall the display driver. To update or reinstall the display driver, you have to first uninstall the existing driver (from Add or Remove Programs), and reboot.

You should use the driver on this page (that is if you are using Windows XP). I would download the driver and text file. Follow the instructions in the text file.

I would uninstall the existing driver first. This text file doesn't mention this, but the text file for my ATI Radeon 9000 does say to uninstall the existing driver first. Use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall the existing driver. Reboot after uninstalling driver, then install the new driver.

I have a T42 with the ATI Radeon 9000 display adapter. The Scale image to panel size is included with my ATI driver. I would think that your newer ThinkPad would include this feature as well. It's possible that reinstalling the display adapter driver will solve your problem with full screen magnifier, but I can't be certain.

try to reinstall it... did you fully install it with the Ati control panel as well, because i only checked the driver box to be install.
Yet, the image scale to panel size isn't exist.

I wasn't really sure if I had the ATI Control Panel installed or not. I reinstalled the driver just now and checked the box to install the Contol Panel as well as the driver. I don't see any extra features or software installed, so I guess I already had the Control Panel installed.

Right click on an open area of the desktop, choose: Properties > Settings > Advanced > Options, and tick the boxes to (1) Enable ATI taskbar icon application, and (2) Show ATI icon on taskbar. Now right click on the ATI icon on the taskbar and choose Help > ATI Flat Panel. Read through there and see if it includes 'expand the display area on my flat panel display'. If your version of ATI Help does not include this, then it probably isn't a feature for your ATI adapter. Perhaps some other T43 owners with the ATI Mobility x300 can help more.

There is one setting in the Bios.

Just enable screen expansion or something. I cannot remember what is the exact name. However, i do remember there is a setting in the Bios that you must check.

FWIW, I went into the BIOS setup menu and turned off screen expansion. When I booted up, I had the same symptom that you had - of the window shrinking when I pressed Fn + Spacebar.

However, I was able to turn the feature back on by using the method I described in my first post on this thread.

I knew of the BIOS setting for screen expansion, but I thought the OS overrode it. It seems the case with me that the ATI driver can override the BIOS setting. In fact, after I turned screen expansion back on using display properties on the desktop, I rebooted and found that the BIOS setting had changed as well. I was aware the OS could override many BIOS settings, but I did not know that it would actually change the BIOS settings.

I'm glad you got your problem resolved (thanks to huntzer). :)
