My T23 motherboard died!!

#1 Post by Fred Brodeur » Fri Sep 16, 2005 4:57 pm

And now all it does when I press the power button is put up a gray bar across the top and the fan revs up and down. Never POSTs, Never see a happy IBM logo. :(

I've come to this conclusion searching and reading posts here.
So now I go to eBay and wonder which board I should get and what to look out for. I know that it has to have 2 USB ports to be a true T23. But what else should I look out for?

I bought this from IBM back in March and now it's dead it's a 2647-4MU

Try calling IBM support to see if they will fix it even though it is out of the 3 month warranty. If you used a credit card, see if they will double the warranty period even though it is re-certified (unfortunately, most don't double recertified/refurbished equipment).

According to the T23 hardware maintenance manual, the 4MU systemboard can be either P/N 26P8218 or P/N 12P3770). You may have to open it up to see which one you have. Some models can only use 12P3770.

I got a 26P8218 board for $90 shipped from these guys on Ebay and repaired my T23:

The current listing is for a 12P3770.

Did you have a "good experience" with these guys? I've made 2 purchases from eBay and got burnt both times.
I REALLY appreciate your feedback, Thanks again.

Yes, I have had an excellent experience with them. The auction ended on Monday and I received the motherboard by Friday. I am on the West Coast. They also have excellent feedback rating, 99.6% (over 1600+).
