T43 / T43p owners with Rescue and Recovery Disks please help

#1 Post by coolice » Sat Sep 17, 2005 5:31 am

Hi !

I would like to ask somebody help who own T43/T43p and he/she has all the 7 rescue and recovery disk set to be so kind and help me out with the 1 cd which is the booting one.

I have all the original 6, but I dont have the first one, and therefore the other 6 are useless.

I know it is a special question, but please help as all datas on the other 6 so you dont risk any specific machine data exchange. Unfortunatelly, getting the missing cd from IBM is not an option in my case.

Plase somebody help me out with the 1st cd from the 7 cd set which is the bootable one. As the cd set (even the 1st booting one) is different in case of all the models, only T43 or T43p cd could come into the picture as I already tried a T42 one.

I could download the ISO of it or you could upload it really as it suits sou, just please help me out.

Many thank you for your time and help in advance,

Moore

None of the T43 / T43p does. But somebody might ordered separately as I did.

You can burn one set by going to: Start > All Programs > Access IBM > Create Recovery Discs.

coolice, calm down... buddy ...

when I created cds my self it created only 6 cds ... first bootable and 5 more. so try those cds ...

if it doesn't help ... call IBM for bootable CD .. if they can't help you send me a mailing address I'll glad to mail you CDs for T43.

Mean while I will work on an image that I can upload somewhere so peoples can download from there and burn just one CD for boot purpose.

keku you are great !!!

i have no nerve at all, just trying to get these cds for weeks now...

regarding to the 6cds, these are not selfcreated , these are ordered from IBM with orig text and logo on them, but NONE of them boot ! the boot was the first one the 7th cd, which i dont have because of my stupidity, so I am seeking a lot, and unfortunatelly due to local country reasons i have no chance to get that from IBM.

so, I am really looing for it, with a BIG thanks !!

one question though : as you mentioned thats not original, but selfmade, are you sure that in case of a completely blank hdd able to restore factory settibs, even the service partition ?

Hmmm...... I see the above info - not in the first post, but in the third (your second). I'm sorry I set you off, but actually I was replying to tehsoul. I suppose that I am P.I..

If you have been trying to get your ThinkPad going for several weeks, well I can see your frustration.

A couple of questions. When you boot into the BIOS setup menu (by pressing F1 at the beginning of the boot sequence), in the Startup section, do you have it set up to 'Boot device list F12 option' - Enabled? At the beginning of the boot sequence, when you press F12, can you choose your CD/DVD drive to boot from? Secondly, are all the machine serial numbers displayed in the BIOS (no blanks)?

Hi ! Yes, of course. I can boot properly from any Cd or DVD. You know to be sure, I used an office pc and ISOBUSTER to check weather any of the 6 cds has bootrecord or not. But nothing. Moreover, all 6cds has ONLY datas nothing executable or any util can do the job. I am 100% sure there is a 7th cd the first one, booting...

Gomjabber, coolice has the 6 recovery CD's, however, the entire set is 7, you see, the first one that would allow him to start the other 6 is the one he needs. I made an ISO image of my CD for my t42 as I have the full set and unfortunately it was a different version. If someone has a T43 and could send him an image of the CD I believe this would allow him to start the recovery process to utilitze the other CD's to create a new service partition. I sure sympathize with his plight. Wish I could have helped more. Good luck!!

I have restored my two "t" series many time with different hard drives clean and with the service partition in tact . If the partition is still there obviously you don't need the cd's. When I use the CD's on a blank HD the first CD creates the restore environment first, then you reboot and start placing the other 6 when promted.

I too have a T42, and I made the CD's about 8 months ago when I got my ThinkPad. I can't remember if it was 6 or 7, and they are not at my present location to check. Since keku said it was 6 for his T43, I assumed that to likely be correct. It occurred to me that perhaps either coolice did not have his ThinkPad setup to boot from CD or perhaps if the serial numbers were not stored in the BIOS, the CD would refuse to install. I've read that you can't install IBM/Lenovo's updates unless you have a valid serial number stored in the BIOS.

Sorry I couldn't help. Best regards. I'm out-a-here.
