Thinkpad x21 (ultrabase x2) Optical drive exchange

#1 Post by BulletTime » Sat Sep 17, 2005 12:16 pm

Hi, I'm interested in buying a X21 with Ultrabase X2 and found an interesting offer on eBay. The only disadvantage of this offer is the cd-rom drive in the docking station.
So my question: Is it possible to exchange the cd-rom drive with any notebook slimline-dvd-drive or will i have to buy one from IBM?

Anything that's UltraBay 2000 will work without modifications.

IIRC, any 12.7mm slimline drive will work, but you'll have to cut a corner out of the door, and take the rails and connector off of the UB2K CD-ROM, and put them on the new drive.
