Any T43 purchasers waiting to see the Z series?
Any T43 purchasers waiting to see the Z series?
I was just curious if any potential T42/43 buyers are waiting to see the new upcoming Z series wide screen Thinkpads before making a purchase decision.
For anyone interested, more info can be found here:

The 14 inch model seems to include integrated graphics and a WXGA screen, a step down from the T in my opinion. The heavier 15.4 model has (i think) an x600, but why would IBM enter the 15.4in widescreen market? A lot of people looking for one would probably go with the cheaper, and "flashier" HPs, Dells, and so on. IBM's strength has always been business laptops. Also, even though it is supposed to be stronger than a T series, i is the first thinkpad under lenovo, so I'll wait for the reviews.

IBM T43: 2687-D3U
I see LaptopLogic posted an update to that article with detailed model and pricing information. pricing seems in line with the T series.c333 wrote:Here is an even better article and analysis:

I like several aspects of the new Z60T, such as the 200 nits of brightness, 4.5 lbs including optical drive, 1" thick chassis, integrated EVDO WAN, etc.
the biggest drawback I can see is the integrated graphics and the low PPI on the LCD. the Z60T's 14" widescreen 1280 x 768 WXGA display has only 86 sq inches of screen real estate equating to 107 pixels per inch, compared to the T4x's 14.1" 1400 x 1050 SXGA+ which has 95 sq inches of screen real estate and 124 pixels per inch... Translation: text won't look as sharp, though it should be brighter.
I definitely plan to order one of these and compare it to the T42/3. guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks.

They are certainly geared to the home user. They look and sound quite stunning too!

Who is making the new widescreen LCD's for Lenovo? It sounds like the brightness is higher but they are not FlexView?Steve007 wrote:They are certainly geared to the home user. They look and sound quite stunning too!

Thanks for linking the LaptopLogic Z-series news
To clarify something as I mentioned in the news: the Z-series has some more consumer oriented features, but the line is specifically oriented towards small business users. However I've been hinted that a consumer oriented line from Lenovo is in the works
Personally I want to find out about the AMD & Lenovo rumors -- can we say Turion-powered Thinkpad?
That would be HOT

Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
I think I'll upgrade my 14.1" T43 with the new Z60m when it's available. I like the idea of the larger screen, especially the Maxbright option. I have an older HP with the 15.4" screen and still consider the screen to be much nicer than the IBM T43 screen. The 14.1" IBM screen has very limited viewing angles. I also like the option of the built-in EVDO which is great for traveling. The only down side I see is that this new Z60m will weigh about 1.5lbs more than my fully loaded T43.
T420s Intel Core I5 2.6ghz, 160GB Solid State Drive, DVDRW, 14" display w/ HD3000 graphics, Intel AGN, BT, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM, Gigabit Ethernet, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I ordered a high-end T43 to replace my T40 and it is being shipped. That was before reading about the Z series in this forum. Also, it appears to me that 1) I overpaid for the T43 buying direct from Lenovo, and 2) the T42 seems a preferable machine to the T43 from what I can glean from the comments here. One nice thing about buying direct from IBM or Lenovo is the 30 day return policy. I;ll be returning my T43 until I sort this out.
Bottom line for me is a convenient screen for word processing and viewing PDF files. As commented above, the larger screen real estate on the T series may keep me in that series again. But, I would like to see more Z reviews before deciding.

SteveDC - the best deal going is the 2373-H6U on the special offers site at thinkpad.com (Lenovo's site). it's a build-to-order model but everyone who has posted on this forum received their machine within 10 days of placing the order (some sooner). Mine was $1341 with bluetooth, 3-year warranty, 7200rpm hard drive, 1.8 processor, fingerprint reader, ATI 9600, etc.
Thank you hoya. I ordered one on line. It said I saved $799. I guess that is about right. about $1800 loaded with memory, DVD recording, and a few extras. Much less expensive than the little-faster T43. That arrived today. I am sending it back unopened. Thanks for the tip. I would not have found that deal on my own.
glad I could help. be sure to get the free additional 6-cell battery as well, and remember that it's much cheaper to get additional RAM from newegg and just install it yourself. I got my machine configured with 256 and then added a 1 gig stick of crucial brand memory from newegg for $120. seemed better to have 1.25gig for $120 rather than 512 for $90.
good luck with your new T42. I am confident that you will like it very much. - John
