Help me with screens - SXGA and SXGA+ ?

#1 Post by CountChocula » Wed Jun 30, 2004 7:34 pm

Help! I've been happy with the same Trinitron for years and I haven't kept up with all these new-fangled screen varieties.

I googled these for definitions and this is all I found:

SXGA+ - 1400 X 1050

The settings above all have an aspect ratio of 4:3. There are also a few other funky settings, with either a 5:4 or 16:9 ratio:

SXGA - 1280 X 1024
<P>

I snipped out the other descriptions since those aren't options for me on a T41p (I don't think). Which one of these is better, or what are they geared towards? I will be using my notebook for writing and researching. I'd like 3D game capability but I have a self-built desktop for that now. I don't want teeny-tiny print like I've seen on some notebooks.

You'll be getting the SXGA+ on the T41P for sure. No other option if I recall correctly.

I am deciding between two that look identical except for one says SXGA and one says SXGA+. The SXGA+ costs a bit more, $150 I think. I have checked it many times on the ibm website.

Is the SXGA+ better for everyone?

I just double checked and there isn't an SXGA T41P or T series for that matter. They all have either XGA, SXGA+, or UXGA

Take a look at the TABook.

If you're able to, visit a retail computer store and look at the Sony VAIO Z1 notebook. It has an SXGA+ screen standard and (sizewise) will look just like the T41P. If you decide to get XGA, fonts will appear much bigger but you'll have much less desktop space.

It's a mistake on their website. The product description for 2373ggu is coming up as SXGA, while the other T41p is coming up as SXGA+. I just looked up the model number specs somewhere else and they said it's SXGA+, so you're right. Hmm, I guess that means I won't have a hard decision. I've already checked out that Sony and I thought it was fine. I tried the TR series teeny notebook with the 10" screen and found the font was just too small for every day use. Thanks.
