MATSHITA UJ-822S Firmware Update

#1 Post by deviousalex » Sun Sep 18, 2005 12:06 am

I just bought a bunch of DVD+Rs and on the inside cover it tells me that if I try to write to these using a 2.4x or a 4x writer I may face a lot of problems with the data being written correctly. It tells me that I need to get a firmware update for my drive to be able to write to the newer 8x discs at 8x speeds. Anyone know where this firmware update is available? I googled and didn't come up with anything useful. I really need my DVD burner!

P.S. - Why is this detected as a DVD-RAM by Windows?

If you're talking about the IBM DVD multiburner, I believe it can only write to DVD (minus) media - DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM; and not to DVD+ (plus) media.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

MATSHITA UJ-822S Firmware Update

There is currently no firmware update available (and also not very likely in the future, considering that this is Panasonic). See also this thread.

 I obviously haven't been keeping up. The multiburner on the T42 is VERY finickey as to media though, hopefully that's been improved for the t43p as well.

T40p-41p use UJ-812B, its DVD-Burner, write 2X DVD-R/RW/RAM and 16X CD-R.

T42-43p some type use UJ-822S, its super multi, can write 2.4X DVD+R/RW, 2X DVD-R/RW/RAM and 24X CD-R.

now, T43 had new super Multi, UJ-832S, can write 4X DVD±R, may support DVD+R DL.

There all are 9.5mm Drivers for "Ultrabay Slim", and the best speed of 9.5mm Multi Burner just 4X, didnt 8X yet.

Hi All!

I'm from Hungary, and i'm very bad in english, therefore i'm sorry. i've got yet 8 days a T43 (2668-97G)(made: 2005-09-19) and this has a Matshita UJ-822S drive. Where i buy the notebook, there sad me the notebook has 4X DVD writer. So at home i tryed, but the drive can writing just maximum 2X (I tryed: TDK, Verbatim TYG02, Ridisc). My question is: This drive can just maximum writing 2X official? When is it true, i ship my notebook back, beacuse i buy a 4X writer not a 2X.

As far as I know, and the latest TABOOK seems to confirm it, The DVD burners that come with the T42s are all UJ-812s, that can only write CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM media, while the DVD burners that come with the T43s are all UJ-822s, that can write all the above and also DVD+R/RW. I know of no DL support, but it may be addable via firware. Anyone?

Our T43p at work has a UJ-832s and it burns both +/- Rs but CANNOT burn DL disks - I tried. There will be another version that supports DL but it seems only OEMs have them now.

Check ultradrives.com for some nice deals on DVD burners for notebooks.

Cheers,
:D :D

It is a marketing (sales) gimmick.
They call it a "4X Multiburner" because it can burn CD-RW at 4X.
It burns DVD-R at 2X and DVD+R at 2.4X.
There is NO 4X DVD BURNING on these drives.

Where you bought it, they thought they were telling you the correct information. Very easy to be confused.

Hi, do you try use UJ-832S to burn DVD+R DL ?
I had fit UJ-832S into my T41p,
and can work 2.4X DVD+R DL Disc,
but not support DVD-R DL.

Hmm...

DVD+R DL disks will not work, the uj-832s doesn't recognize it as a DL disk.

I didn't know that -R DL disks were on the market yet.

I have a feeling that all it takes is a firmware upgrade to convert the UJ-832s to read DL disks.

There does now seem to be an update: While only UJ-822B is mentioned, it did successfully update a UJ-822S from firmware version 1.03 to 1.05 on a T43p.

My IBM uj-822s shows a firmware version of 1600. Have anyone seen that numbering scheme before?

What's the difference between a UJ-822S and a UJ-822B drive?

BTW: I have V 1.60 with my UJ-822S.

Hi

I see that some of you have posibilities to burn dvd+r9 but some of you not..I have proposal..could you save your dvd burner bios and firmware and post it in a file :?: All the other would have to do is to flash the dvd burner
