CPU temperature, X41 vs. X31

#1 Post by domi » Sun Sep 18, 2005 8:41 am

I would like to know how the X41 compares to my X31 (2884JUU) in terms of CPU temperature, as reported by MobileMeter.

My X31's CPU temperature is close to 60°C when running at full clock speed (1.4 GHz) and is around 45°C when running at "half-speed" (as specified in Battery MaxiMiser, ie. 600 MHz as reported by MobileMeter). I run my X31 most of time at half-speed, because of the lower temperature (I use it a lot on my lap) and of the lower noise level (the fan hardly ever gets into action). I don't really need the extra power either (and if I happen to need it, it's only one mouse-click away).

I'm considering moving to an X41. Does its "low voltage" Pentium-M 758 (1.5 GHz) run cooler than my X31's standard P-M (1.4 GHz). What is the 758's "half-speed" that is triggered by BMM (SpeedStep?)?

Thanks, Dominique (X31, 1.4GHz, 2GB, 60GB 5400 rpm, WLAN/BT)

All 400MHz FSB Pentium Ms (which these are) drop to 600MHz on SpeedStep.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21
