I'm trying to recover the preinstalled software on a T40 and am having problems. The recovery partition is still there and untouched but hitting the Access IBM button during startup does not give me the option of restoring factory software. Anyone know how to enable this option?
Do I have to install the Rapid Resotre utility (which I never installed and set up)? If so, is there a way to instal it without also doing an initial backup? Because installing and doing a backup will take 800 minutes, according to the on-screen estimate, which is a rather long time.
The reason I never installed RR is that I got a set of resotre CDs from IBM. Never used them until today, only to discover that on boot the message "starting Windows 98" pops up, which implies the discs are for Win98, not XP. The values.txt file on the boot disc does say XP, however. Anyone know which I should believe?
Any help appreciated.

Try this, turn off your computer wait 10 seconds, start, when promted push the blue access IBM button. See if that gets you there. The instructions state, turn off, wait 5 seconds, then start, apparently you can't get there with a restart. It should be there unless you have disabled security in the predesktop area in bios, this causes the OS to try and reclaim the space.
