Why go Dell, when there's the R series?

I just don't get it.

I mean, I compared an R50e, 1842-SLU, with a free upgrade to 768MB, to a comparable Dell Inspiron 2200. The 2200 cost MORE, and probably would have been more flimsy, with worse battery life, and a lower lifetime.

So, why don't people buy IBM? The R series fills the 1200/2200 niche quite nicely.

I think for the average Joe, Thinkpads look too boring.
Plus the R50e is weird about expansion and supporting IBM options like docks etc.

Nope.

I'll give you the boring, except has anyone looked at the 2200? Pretty boring, if you ask me - at least the R has an interesting shape...
