Z-series accessories compatible with older Thinkpads?

#1 Post by Michael1980 » Tue Sep 20, 2005 7:38 am

Hi,
I wonder if the 14" Z-series Thinkpad will use the same parts for ultrabay (battery, dvdt etc) and whether the main battery will also be the same?
How about the docks. I hope IBM will not start introducing many different incompatible accessories like Sony or something  (although they have changed that recently).

Anyway, any info on this?

Same ultrabay... different everything else.

new docks just for the z series.

New power adpaters with new/different barrel connectors.... Higher voltage, more current makes for bigger barrel connector. I'm told that the new ThinkPads like the New T series at start of next year will all start to incorporate new power brick/connector.

Batteries are currently unique to the Z-series, though the New T and R series will use the same system batteries as the Z60M after the turn of the year.

Things can't stay the same forever.... but at least future thinkpads will have some compatible parts just as they have now.... They really have remained on the same batteries (r50,1,2 & T40,1,2,3) and power for quite some time now.

I know this because I am at a trade event today and talked with Lenovo brand team members and actually got to see and pick up the Zseries.

Very cool.

But my Ultrabay battery will work on the 14" Z. Good to know!

Looking carefully at the Z60's for sale now, it looks like the Z60m (15.4") has an Ultrabay Enhanced, and the Z60t (14.0") has the Ultrabay Slim.

From IBM/Lenovo's site:

ThinkPad R52 and R51 notebooks feature the Ultrabay Enhanced, which accepts both Ultrabay Enhanced and Ultrabay Slim devices.

New. Power. Adaptor?

Hell no.

FWIW, what plug does the G series use? Same as the other TPs?
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

The G series uses a 120W power supply, which will be going end of life at the end of the year.

I meant, can the G40/41 power adaptor be plugged into a regular ThinkPad? I knew it was higher amperage (and, therefore, wattage)...

No it's not only a different brick but also a different connector.
