T22...Standard or low latency RAM..???

#1 Post by sickofit » Tue Sep 20, 2005 11:05 am

Just curious if the T22 takes standard PC100 RAM,or is it like the older 770\600 series,in that it needs the 8 small chips per side 256MB sodimm......will it accept 1 512MB stick(is there PC100 512MB??)..??...

Thanks....

Greg, I had poor luck obtaining a low cost memory upgrade to 512MB for my T-22.

The memory you need is definitely not standard PC-100 memory. I was told that there are additional, not-well-understood (at least by non-engineers) specifications for memory modules that go beyond their PC-1xx specs. I don't know where these specs are defined.

There is general agreement in this newsgroup that T-2x series machines require "low density" PC-100 modules and these are not common parts. How the computer knows the density of its memory modules is a mystery to me, but they do. I suspect that density is a pointer to another more important electronic spec.

I tried several non-IBM sources for the modules and they shipped unusable standard PC-100 modules. One even shipped PC-133s and asserted that they are backwardly compatible, which is not true.

You need to get two FRU33L3070 to get to 512. I found some on ebay for about $40 a stick.
