X41 Secure Digital Slot
X41 Secure Digital Slot
Greetings,
This is my first posting on the site, please be kind.
I've had my X41 for a few weeks now and am generally very satisfied with the machine - but the SD slot doesn't appear in My Computer.
Thinkpad support is leaning toward a hardware problem and wants me to send in the machine. . . which I'm not looking forward to do for something not critical to the overall operation.
Has anyone else had this kind of issue? Do I have to enable anything?
Thx much.

I have X41T and I hadn't seen X41, but I think you just didn't enable the device, or didn't insert SD card (it won't appear until you insert one).
To enable it press Fn+F9 and use the tool to enable it. Once you do it, it'll appear every time you insert a SD card.

Like the previous poster explained, you will not see the SD slot as a drive until you insert a SD card. I use one all the time.
Insert a SD card into the slot and go to My Computer. It should appear as a removable drive. You then can access the card.
Until you insert the card for the first time, it will not show anywhere as a drive.
I did place a shortcut on my desktop for my SD card so it is accessed with ease.

Thanks - you guys are correct.
It looks like the problem is with the slot itself.
If I put the card in normally, nothing happens. However, if I press the card in and hold it, the machine recognizes the card. As soon as I release the card to its normal 'in' position, I no longer see the card in My Computer.
If anyone has an X41 and a SD card, please check yours and let me know if you have the same issue.
Thx.
Mike

When you put the card in properly, it locks into place with a click. At that point the card edge is lined up JUST INSIDE the edge of the slot. Unless you have used a fingernail to put it in, it will probably not have latched. Now the card shows up in My Computer and can be used for read and write. To eject the card, using a fingernail, push it further inside - it releases with another click, and disappears from My Computer.
