Strange Display Artefacts Using Java

I have some strange display artefacts when using Java applications with my T42. Inside the black circles you can see some strange pixels. It only happens in Java so it's nothing to do with the LCD.

Anyone have this as well? This is my configuration:
- T42 2373-9XE
- Ati Mobility Radeon 9600
- Driver 6.14.10.6422 13/05/2004
- Java 1.4.2_04 (build b05)

I updated my ATI driver via Windows Update, but I had the same problem with the original driver.

As a side question: anyone managed to use the scrolling feature of the trackpoint in Java (press middle button and use trackpoint to scroll)? With the applications from Webstart, it scrolls very slowly, with NetBeans it doesn't work at all.

I'm at the same window and I don't see those strange things, that is really weird. I have the same Java build. Did you try refreshing the page? Closing and re-starting?

The problem was the Color Quality setting. Changing it to 32bit helped. But then Java display became very slow.

So i installed the newest Catalyst drivers with the help of Patje's Mobility Modder. No problems any more :D I can even switch to 16bit and it displays fine.

Where did you get those drivers from? It sounds like something I would like to have.

Mobility Modder from here http://www.3dchipset.com/utilities/ati/ ... modder.php and Catalyst drivers from here http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winx ... submit.y=6.

First execute the Catalyst drivers and unpack the files to the default directory. The installer will stop with an error message. The use the modder tool to patch the Catalyst files. Then run the setup.exe in the drivers subdirectory.

Thanks for the info, I think my system looks a bit sharper and reacts a bit snappier.

Tokyo, did you have to uninstall your default IBM ATi FireGL T2 drivers/control set first? Or will the Catalyst override them?

Uninstall your current ATI driver, then restart. Windows will use the default display driver. Then just follow Tokyo’s instruction: “First execute the Catalyst drivers and unpack the files to the default directory. The installer will stop with an error message. Then use the modder tool to patch the Catalyst files. Then run the setup.exe in the drivers subdirectory.”
