Hardware Maintenance Manual is up

#1 Post by sugo » Tue Sep 20, 2005 8:35 pm

z60t:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61365

The HMM page for z60m is also up but the file link is broken at the moment.

Random observations:
- Bluetooth seems to be 2.0 EDR (finally)
- No Azalia (need txbook to confirm)
- Mini-pci slot and adapter is of type mini-pci Express
- 2010 bios check (sigh ...)
- DVD writer is UJ-832B. Depending on firmware it might be able to do 4x dvd write.
- Bluetooth and modem are two separate daughter cards.
- Only one screw for holding keyboard.
- Judging from the disassembling guide, I am personally convinced that it's a thinkpad.

I am still wondering if the MaxBright screen on z60m will be a glossy LCD like Sony xBrite.

The Z-series is an IBM design. It was in the pipeline before Lenovo bought the division. There will be a glossy display for the Z60m (later, est. in November)

My sister bought a widescreen Vaio last month with the Xbrite screen. It looks really nice. Maybe someone who knows this stuff better than me could comment: what kind of screen makes a "glossy" screen and what are the advantages?

One of the disadvantages I know of is that they're extremely reflective. Not the best for working in bright areas.

I wonder if this will pop-up with aftermarket drives? The chipset has native support for SATA and all Z60 drives are SATA. Maybe I'll get a new Seagate SATA 7200.1 and try it out :D
Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
