Price of T43p (2687-D5U) - Why so cheap?

#1 Post by onix » Thu Sep 22, 2005 12:24 pm

While I really want to get a 14.1" T43p (2668G6U), this 15" (2687D5U) is about $350 cheaper than any 14.1", and it's even got a bigger harddrive:

Why? Is IBM trying to dump this model, e.g. too much in inventory? Is there a manufacturing issue with this model such as fan problem?

The 2687D5U is an Express model and is stocked higher and has a lower list price than the standard models. As far as I can tell, there are no 14" T43p Express models. However, you can get bigger discounts off the list price of the standard models that can make the 2668G6U cheaper or equal to the 2687D5U.

If you are basing your pricing on pricegrabber, you are not getting the best prices. You are getting only merchants who are giving a small discount off of list. There are cheaper options.

You can contact Bill Morrow, the owner of this site (www.thinkpads.com), for his pricing. He is a Lenovo reseller and he doesn't charge sales tax outside of Florida.

2687D5U has a 9-cell battery and 3 year warranty.

it's cheaper than other T43p's because it has the 2.0 processor rather than the 2.13/2.26 processor, and the hard drive is only 5400rpm rather than 7200rpm.

There is nothing wrong with 2687D5U. As others said, this is an express model and the 2GHz CPU and 5400RPM HD makes it cheaper.

I have owned my 2687D5U for about 3 months, and it is great. I don't think 2.13G differs a lot from 2G, and 5400RPM maybe a bottleneck, but you got 20G more space.

If you can get a EPP price, you will see that other non-express models are also quite cheap and are about the same price as 2687D5U.

The tax is really a lot for such a price at $2500 more, that's why I bought mine on eBay......
Current: T43P-2687D5U: P-M 2G, 2G RAM, FireGL V3200 128M, 80G 5400 RPM(Will be 100G 7K100 when 2010 gone!), 15' UXGA, Multi Burner, Intel A/B/G, Bluetooth, 9 Cell, Fingerprint Reader, WinXP Pro
Previous: 390E, 600E, T23, X30, T40 ......
