Third 2686-DGU has bad pixel

#1 Post by fefland » Thu Sep 22, 2005 2:55 pm

I guess me getting a good screen on a thinkpad is not possible. Just recieved my 3rd 2686-DGU and it has a bad pixel. So that is 3 in a row now. For all of you with good screens (no bad pixels) I am glad for you. I called back customer relations and will wait to see what they say. I already have gotten an NMB KB, restored HD from first Laptop to second, and spent 2 weeks getting warranty registered, so I might just keep the second. It has two bad pixels right next to each other, whereas #3 only has one. The effort to move files/apps to new one is not worth it. If anything, I think I would return both. I know the policy for bad pixels but 3 in a row is unbelievable. This may be the last Thinkpad I ever buy and I will probably not recommend to anyone.

hey fefland - sorry to hear about your trouble with Lenovo. I've purchased 7 ThinkPad's over the past few months (one T42, the rest T43's), and every one has been perfect.

I would consider the T42 2373H6U - it's on special at thinkpad.com for $700 off list price, and you can get a $129 Leather case for free. the EPP price is actually $50 higher!

it's CTO but I ordered mine on the 13th and it shipped on the 20th, so you should be able to get one fairly quickly. oh, mine also shipped with a Hydis LCD!

It sounds silly, but have you tried "rubbing" it?

I don't know the Thinkpads by their specific model number, but I do have a recent T43 14.1" Thinkpad. It developed a bad (white) pixel a couple of days ago--if you tilted the screen bad you could see it jump out, it was apparent over the mouse cursor and everything. I figured with one dead pixel, I probably wasn't going to be able to do much, so I tried alternative remedies -- I tried rubbing it and also playing that epileptic video (do a google for PSP dead pixel) and the pixel didn't seem to come back to life... Until an hour or so later, it was completely back to normal. No dead pixels (knock on wood).

I'd give it a shot, it's the least you could try.
