wireless radio

#1 Post by sailus » Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:18 am

Yesterday I used the IBM Software Installer to update a bunch of drivers on my 3 month old R51. Drivers were for BIOS, hotkeys the Intel 2200BG wireless. Once that happens and I rebooted, my wireless radio was no longer availabe. The hotkey FN-F5 shows error message when I activate that "unable to change the power state of 802.11 wireless radio and to update the driver for the adapter - which I've done twice.
in Access Connections, it won't scan and show any nearby wireless points.
I'm using an IBM a/b/g cardbus adapater which I also purchased and am able to gain net access.

Intel site states might be a hardware related with a physical button needed to reactive. Don't see one anywhere. Any advise on how to power up the wireless radio?

thanks

Happened to me a few times too.

Using the Software installer, uninstall (only) the wireless drivers and re-install them again.

You might need the newer version of IBM Access Connections to go with your newer Intel 2200BG wireless driver. See following wireless driver compatibility guide for the newest version of IBM Access Connections HERE.

If you are using the Intel 9.0.2.31 wireless driver, then you need IBM Access Connections version 3.71 or later as stated on THIS PAGE.

Samething happened to me today, try everything include ur way, all firmwares and related softwares are latest updated, nothings worked. However, the wireless signal reception and speed now are indeed more stable and faster. The Fn-F5 still works for the bluetooth though, guess I have to use the hard-switch in front or right click to enable/disable to wireless adapter then :|

One solution you might try is to make sure the WLAN driver is enabled under your Wireless Network Connection settings. I think this is why uninstallation and reinstallation of the wireless drivers works - because the WLAN driver is installed and enabled. I was going around in circles until I realized that when I disabled the myriad "unnecessary" drivers in the wireless settings (only keeping TCP/IP checked), I could no longer switch the wireless on/off.

Cheers.
