Thinkpad X41 Tablet multiple problems

#1 Post by PDADoc » Fri Sep 23, 2005 2:27 pm

Hi all,

I've had this tablet for about a little over two weeks now (after waiting more than nine weeks for it!), and I mostly like it, except for the interminable boot times, miscellaneous bugs, etc. But there are two problems that are bugging me to death: when I attempted to create the rescue media and install disks, the procedure failed, again and again. :x

The other problem has to do with the fingerprint security function. Everytime I set it up so that it takes the place of the Windows login process, it works fine once or twice. But the moment I have to reboot the machine it disappears and I have to set it up all over again! This has happened over and over again! Is this happening to anyone else?

So I called IBM/Lenovo and they sent me the restore CDs (all 7 of them), which is fine. But now I figure since I can't use the restore function on the tablet, I wanted to delete that partition and reclaim the space it uses, but I can't for the life of me seem to do it. I've tried Partition Magic 8.0 to do it, but it fails everytime. I don't have a floppy, so I can't boot into a DOS prompt and use a fdisk.

Has anyone been able to do this? If so, any information you can pass onto me to do it would really be appreciated!

Thanks! :D

You need to disable the hidden partition in the bios. Once the hidden partition is visible you can delete it.

Thanks for the response. That's another thing: I can't seem to get to the BIOS. It could be another problem with my machine.

What is the key combination during bootup to get into the BIOS?

Nevermind, I figured out how to get in. Don't know why but I couldn't before.

Anyway, I made the partition visible in the BIOS, but when I boot into Windows, I still can't do anything with it.

I'm still troubleshooting that, and I'll update later.

I've been trying to reclaim the space used by the hidden partition, but still can't convert/delete it. I've set it up in the BIOS to be visible, but I'm-stymied. Has anyone else run into this problem?
