Computer Overheated

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Sat Sep 24, 2005 10:39 am

I thought this was a good and funny example of user stupidty. My main question after seeing and reading this page is how do you do something of this sort on accident?

I suspect that the user was trying to hide his laptop while he was out of the house. Another person, or perhaps the owner himself later turned on the oven without looking inside first.

Possibly. Still, I had always thought before that it'd be common sense to keep your computer away from things like ovens.

Well, whatever, I'm not going to bring out any more debate on intelligence behind the story, I'm just going to leave it for the mild amusement of people who would find it mildly amusing.

Cookpad?

Perhaps the owner was thinking 'cookpad' instead of 'thinkpad'?

I sincerely doubt that it was an accident, unless the person was mentally incapacitated.

In retrospect, that person's very lucky that the battery never exploded.

Actually, I have heard several people say that if you spill water on a laptop, to dry it manually with a cloth and then place it in a "turned off" oven to help dry it out, because the humidity level would be less in there.

Never tried it, because I too might forget it.

Wow.

Now I have to tell the story of my dad, a cell phone, his wallet, and a microwave, don't I?

OK, we're exhibiting at a fair, and kept the phone, wallet, and keys in the microwave, so that nobody would steal them. Anyway, my dad decides to make some popcorn. So, he puts it in, turns on the microwave. Note the step he forgot - take everything out.

The phone melted (battery didn't explode, though), and all of the credit cards exploded.
