Updating Thinkvantage Software

#1 Post by safelder » Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:20 am

Do they update the ThinkVantage software packages for older machines? In other words, will the new ThinkVantage suite, that is a part of the Z60 series (things like the Away Manager and message center), eventually be available for the T series?

If the past is any indication, there will be new software and features available on the new Z-series, that you can't get anywhere else. One more reason to buy one!

I wonder why the ThinkVantage suite is available on the R51e though. I thought that the R-series typically was part of the lower-end lineup.

Most of the new software updates for T-series under the thinkvantage whether they are achieving critical updates or not but they definitely seem to be renaming anything which said IBM **** to thinkvantage **** and moving towards red logos ( chinese flag ?? :) ) away from the green / black / blue which IBM used ....

I assume, though, that they'll put it into the next iteration of the T series. Does anybody know (1) when that is expected and (2) what it will be? I want to be at least reasonably future-proof, so, if they're making substantial changes to the T series (e.g., SATA HDD, integrated WWAN), in the near future, I'll wait.

I'm not sure I want a widescreen machine, and I'm not sure I like the idea of integrated graphics, or I'd just get the Z60t.

Actually, when I saw that it supported the X40 as well, I just downloaded it and installed the Suite and the Away manager on my T40p.

No problems at all, it even recognized the "Access IBM" Help Center and included it into the menus.

"Away manager" is just the tool I have been looking for!
In the evening I just start it, and it scans my disk, defrags with O&O and finally runs the Norton over it. Keeps it busy all night...
In the morning I have a clean system...
The best tool, IBM (or lenovo) compiled ever.
