A22e/Second HDD adapter (#08K6068)

#1 Post by jecoled » Thu Jul 01, 2004 1:47 pm

Hi:

I want to use the adapter with a Toshiba 40GB HDD. Would this drive be OK with this adapter or do I have to use IBM drives?

Thanks

OK, as long as the HDD is not thicker than 9.5 mm.

The 60gb Travelstar (12.5mm thick) that came with my (IBM Certified Used) A31p died twice (because of bad sectors) last summer, and just last month I replaced it with a Toshiba 80gb (9.5mm thick) drive. My Travelstar is no longer reliable enough for me to trust it as my primary drive, but I decided to put it was okay to use as a secondary drive. I did some price comparison and research and was ready to buy the Ultrabay 2nd hdd adapter, until I saw this thread. I called IBM to get a definite answer on the specs and dimensions of the "Second HDD adapter (#08K6068)" but nobody knew even the most basic specs (argh!). Since the regular price at Amazon is just $46.99 with free shipping, I decided it couldn't hurt to try, and I could always pass it down to my brother who has a T23 and an extra 20gb 9.5mm notebook drive. I got the adapter today, and I can confirm that notebook hard drives as thick as 12.5mm fit perfectly into the Ultrabay 2000 2nd HDD Adapter.

Sorry for the long story just to lead to a simple conclusion... I tend to rant...
