T21 1Ghz upgrade doesn't work
Hi,
I've just tried to upgrade my T21-850-SXGA+ with a 1Ghz P3 (SL53S). After changing the CPU the laptop didn't start. The fan, the leds and the drives work, but the lcd stays dark. After putting in the old CPU, erverything is fine again. So, my questions is: Is the CPU defect or is my system board not capable of delivering the right core voltage (1.7V - some say they didn't have problems with that)? If the CPU is defect I could just look for another CPU, otherwise I must stay with 850MHz...
cheers

Have you checked the model/type on Lenovos site to see which FRU your mainboard is? What proscessors are supported is documented there.
Here's an example link, enter the correct model/type where it says Quick Path for the specifics on yours, or just click on Parts Information to get to the documentation. There is a single set of parts documents for the entire t2X series.

If you are certain it was installed correctly, the CPU is bad.flea wrote:well, officially only processors up to 850 Mhz are supported, but I read in this and forums that other people didn't have problems upgrading to 1Ghz. So, does anyone know how to determine if it's the cpu that's defect or if my systemboard is just too weak?

Hi AbsoluteRaleigh,
I'm shure it was installed correctly, I tried several times, and exchanged each time with the old CPU. The old one always worked while the new one didn't... So, I can be shure that the CPU is bad? I'll just go for another one, fortunately the bad CPU wasn't very expensive ;O)
thanks
