Laptop for Grad School

#1 Post by PJR » Thu Jul 01, 2004 3:30 pm

As I head off to graduate school I'm confronted with the need for a laptop. I've always used my computers relatively hard for gaming, music, and word processing, but never really programing etc al.

As such I've stuck with desktops throughout college, but as grad school for me is in Cambridge I need a laptop to travel.

While trying to narrow down the choices, I realized that I wanted something built well and with a solid reputation, leading me to IBM and it's reputation for durability and construction.

I've been able to further narrow down my selection to the T series due to it's relative mobility and the seeming flexibility of hardware options.

However, I'm currently stuck (hence my posting) on picking the right t-model.

I want my laptop primarily to do work on (the ibm keyboard, is another reason I've been attracted to IBM) but also with the ability to play games if desired. While sadly my gaming activity has decreased (more work, less games) I still use it as a way to stay sane.

Some of my current confusion centers on which size screen to get (14, 15) and which of the video cards would be the best for gaming.

If someone could suggest a system -- or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for helping out!

pj.

Ifyou want the 14", go for the FVU, it has the 9600, and really good gaming performance, pretty decentprice..and you can get an educational discount on top of that.
