power on password question

#1 Post by chrisnyc » Mon Sep 26, 2005 8:16 pm

I have enabled the power on password on my T42 by entering the bios and doing so. Thus far I'm not using fingerprint software or any of the specialized IBM security software.

I have a couple of questions :

1 - I noticed when I accidentally entered my password (which is a combination of numbers / letters) with a small rather than capital letter, that it said "ok" and logged on. I turned off the computer and entered it correctly (with a capital letter) and it also logged on. I find it hard to believe that the log on password is not case sensitive ? (The caps lock is OFF.)

2 - When I restart the computer either through the start menu, or when I restart after suspend (sleep), it does not ask for the password. I'd rather it did.

Thanks for any responses.

I'll answer #2. Right click on an open area of the desktop. Choose: Properties > Screen Saver > Power... > Advanced. Make sure box is checked that says: "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby".

EDIT: I forgot to add that you set the (Windows) password by going to: Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.

Thanks GomJabbar -- anyone have any ideas about question # 1 -- why the power on password does not seem to be case sensitive -- I'm sure it's not my imagination about this !

Short answer: That is just the way it is designed- not case sensetive.
