Access Connection problem in T43 (urgent)

#1 Post by FreeSolaris10 » Wed Sep 28, 2005 1:42 am

I just upgraded the 2915 wirelss driver and access connection by the ThinkVantage software installer.
and it's completely screwed up. The Access Connection doesn't detect the new wireless driver at all.

Even when I rolled back to the old wireless driver, the new Access Connection didn't detect the driver.
finally, even when I rolled back to the old Access Connection software with the old wirelss driver, IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!
So now I just completely stopped using access connection and just manually connect wirelessly (so the wireless driver isn't the problem since it's working fine manually)

anyone seen this? I liked access connection when it was working fine but how do I get it to work again? (preferably the new one with the new wireless driver)

thanks in advance

Hi,

This happens to me every time also in one of my machines. It drove me crazy until I found one day what was happening. The problem in my case seems to be that the sebring API does not install correctly. If your problem is the same, do the following :

- Uninstall access connections through software installer, reboot
- Uninstall the sebring API through control panel -> add/remove programs if present (probably it's not there, so don't do nothing)
- Reinstall the wireless driver, reboot
- find where did the access connections download the wireless driver and from within a command line, move to the ... WLLANINT\APPS\API directory. Then run the command 'SBRNGAPI.EXE'
- Then you can reinstall access connections and all should work

Well, I can't help you with were in your machine it is, but maybe it gives you some hints to know where it is in my machine :

C:\Drivers>dir sbrngapi* /s
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 5CC0-9DEE

Directory of C:\Drivers\W2K\ACCONWLD\WLANCX2\APPS\API

02/08/2004 22:09 5.773.205 SBRNGAPI.EXE
1 File(s) 5.773.205 bytes

Directory of C:\Drivers\W2K\ACCONWLD\WLLANINT\APPS\API

28/07/2004 09:29 5.706.789 SBRNGAPI.EXE
1 File(s) 5.706.789 bytes

There are two instances because I have installed two versions of the wireless drivers...

Somewhere in the older documentation it says to uninstall Access Connections and restart *before* changing the wireless NIC driver. That is what I do, and it has always worked for me with both IBM and Intel cards.

So uninstall Access Connections. Restart.
Uninistall the wireless NIC. Try not to restart.
Install the new wireless driver. Restart.
Install Access Connections. Restart.

Good luck, ... JD Hurst

tried everything..nothing works...I can't even go back to the older version of wirelss driver + access connections combination..

I don't mind not using the access connections as long as there is a way to turn off the wirelss antenna to conserve battery life...apart from using the access connections(Fn+F5), i have to go to the device manager and turn it off....that's annyoing..

anyone know easier way? or better yet, any other suggestions as to what I should do to make this access connection work?

I also updated my 2915 driver and also got the problem. I searched at least 2 hours. Finally i made it work, but i'm quite unable to say how. I just remember i made about like FTC.

One thing that can help : Once u rollbacked your driver, then when you will reupdate the driver, the old will stay.

You have to click "update driver", then select something like "from list of driver (experienced user)", then choose "don't search, i will choose the driver to install". Then a list of all drivers for your wifi card will display. And here you can choose the latest driver.

Thats what i did and now the wifi is ok with the windows utility. If i use the ibm/lenovo application, my wireless will crash few times after the connection.

I had a problem without upgrading Fn + F5 won't work .. had to reimage system with all new Cds. then it worked fine.

Day before yesterday I upgraded to new driver and access connections and it's working fine.
