edit: How to replace power jack? (Is under Warranty )

#1 Post by stace » Wed Sep 28, 2005 2:56 am

My wife went walkies with the lappy while it was plugged in Sad

It still charges but is a little dicky (a slight movement makes it go to battery). I fear it will go completely and I won’t be able to charge it!

I have taken the thinkpad apart and have located the power jack (Excellent manual by IBM). It looks like it just screws in and connects via a connector. Is this right? Can I just unscrew it, unplug the connector and replace it?

I have looked on the net for a couple of hours and haven’t been able to find where I can purchase a power jack for my T41.
If so, where can I buy it in the UK?

Any help much appreciated.

Stace

EDIT:

Never mind, i called up and it is under Warranty. 3 years - cool!

I guess you're taken care of? But yes, the power jack is attached by a removeable cable and is screwed into the magensium frame - a very good design as the engineers obviously did this to deal with the inevitable "trip over the cord" damage.

The only problem is you have to nearly disassemble the whole machine to get to remove the jack, but it sounds like warranty service will do that for you :)
