T42 and T43
My aunts T42 just arrived, helping her install software.
I just noticed that its much more silent than my T43 even if I'm at adaptive, undervolted, powerplay set to lowest, and idling.
Hers is just right out of the box at 1.60 GHz constant without powerplay... (Radeon 7500 for graphics, 1.6 GHz processor)
Its also a 14.1 inch model, interesting.
It also does not run the fan that much, but it is "idling at 1.6GHz at 48C" (I am idling at 45C, I also exaust warm air, hers has hot air.)
Also her northbridge gets hot, southbridge on the laptop isn't bad...
I actually have her friends T42 as well, going to have software installed and they'll be ready to go (T43 + T42 x 2. The T43 is the biggest, so its like a small family of computers)
Note = The T42 looks TINY compared to the T43 in height and footprint, its also much lighter.

You can't get a T42 with the same guts as a T43. The T43 uses a Sonoma processor vs. Dothan for T42. DDR2 memory is also used in the T43 vs. DDR ram for T42. DDR2 runs at 1.8v vs. 2.5v for the DDR ram in the T42. As long as you get the fingerprint reader with the T42, they are very similar. The fingerprint reader is available on select T42's and pretty much standard on the T43.
The T43 runs slightly warmer than T42.

Sorry to bring up an old topicHans Gruber wrote:You can't get a T42 with the same guts as a T43. The T43 uses a Sonoma processor vs. Dothan for T42. Right now, the Fan in my T43 is off and the ONLY thing I can hear is the Hard Drive; I'm not joking here
I have also heard my Friend's T42 with the fan off; amazingly quiet. Compare this to an old HP laptop I had that sounded like a turbofan.
Oh, and one question; does the T43 use the same Fan as the T43?

Well the two fans actually break down into two different base parts, but that could be explained by RoHS compliance. Essentially they are o the same design, that much is certain.
