Fan on I series after XP upgrade (and a memory question)

Fan on I series after XP upgrade (and a memory question)

I recently purchased an I series (type 1161) and the fan only seems to work on low speed. It spins much faster during bootup. Is this controlled by a utility, or is this just "the way it is"?
