Port Replicator Question

#1 Post by nichihan » Thu Sep 29, 2005 1:06 pm

Hi, I have a T42 and would like to know if I can still use the ports on the laptop in addition to those on the replicator while plugged in. More specifically, I was wondering if the s-video out on the laptop would still work with the laptop inside the port replicator.

Thanks.

as far as i know, the only thing that works on my t42p when its in the port replicator II is the usb slots on the left side. i dont' think the s-video will work because its supposed to be a pass-through replicator.

The USB still works on my T42. I always just plug my thumb drive in on the side because its easier than fiddling with the back.

ONly the two USBs work... the rest are replicated and cannot actually be accessed cuz the replicator blocks the back of the T4X

The only things on the back of a T4x are printer and power ports.

port rep drivers?

#7 Post by marvel » Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:04 am

Hi there!

Does port replicator II need any drivers? Is it possible to lower the volume of the line out jack, in order to use it as a headphones jack?

No.

If you mean seperately from overall "volume" on all the audio outputs, no its not.

You could build a simple in-line pad (attenuator) to go between the line out mini-jack socket and the mini-jack plug on your headphones if you need to achieve a different level on the line out compared to the overall audio level setting.

Radio Shack may not be available in the Down Under, but they sell a 1' cord with an in-line attenuating volume control. Regular version #42-2459 ($4.99), Gold-Plated version #42-2559 ($5.49). From 2002 Radio Shack catalog. It's possible they have different offerings now.

I was going to mention that the audio out on the PR II is quite bad for headphones. The PR II makes the sound much too loud, which distorts and crackles the sound.

I used to hate the inline volumes but for once it looks like a cheap, easy fix. My other fix was going to be a small battery powered amplifier from head-fi.org.

Thanks!
