Z60t Review
Looks like the keyboard might not be up to snuff but no fan issue.

That plastic image is a little disconcerting.
The Z series palm rest clips on from the front but the only screws are towards the back of it so theoretically if you pull out and up that would happen. It shouldn't happen in normal usage but I might check it out tommorrow to see if I can do the same thing.

I'm liking this Z60t more and more. I will certainly consider a Z series when I get my next machine, though I have to see what the new T series will be like as well!
Edit: That one photo of the palmrest being lifted up kinda freaks me out though
Well, I'm not looking to purchase for awhile, so I'll wait and see if any issues pop up.

I'll ask about the T-series. But there is a specific reason why Lenovo didn't offer discrete graphics in the Z60t: it is to ensure there is room for "future technologies" in the same chassis.K. Is there a timeframe on this?fbrdphreak wrote:I'll ask about the T-series. Correct sir!!! DING DING DINGsafelder wrote:From what I hear, shortly after the turn of the year, with machines incorporating Napa/Yonah already in design and testing.fbrdphreak wrote:Well when is Intel's new mobile technology coming out...
Here's some more info on Yonah for those who aren't up to speed:

That is pretty much all the latest info

Yup. I saw this news after I'd decided to go T series rather than Z series, but now I'm hanging on until after the turn of the year to see how Lenovo implements dual core. Hopefully, they stick a dual-core processor in the existing (or upgraded) T chassis (similar to the T42 to T43 move). Perhaps they'll even go to SATA HDDs as they've done with the Z.

I too am interested to see how dual core is implemented in the Thinkpads. It should be doable in the T-series, but the size may have to change a little!
Personally I'm waiting for Merom, Yonah's successor, before buying a new machine. Yonah isn't 64-bit and from what I hear it will just be two Dothan's strapped together; much like the Pentium D (dual core) is now. Merom is a new architecture, 64-bit ready, with a lot more promise (in my opinion). Can't wait

There are some misconceptions here that I feel should be corrected for the record.
Yonah is NOT 2 Dothans stuck together. The cores share some similarities with Dothan, but they have vastly improved SSE/2/3 engines. Also, the cores share an L2 cache and can communicate with each other over a crossbar ("arbiter bus"). This is completely unlike Pentium D, which is literally 2 Prescott cores glued together.
Intel reps have stated that simply gluing 2 Dothans together would not have yielded the performance or power saving that Intel wanted.

Note that some Napa platform machines will use PGA568. This will be the same socket used for the Merom chips.
If you don't need to use more than 4GB of memory space in your notebook, Yonah will be a perfectly fine choice.

So I adopt a wait-and-see attitude for Napa/Yonah. Since I'm confident that even a Sonoma/Dothan machine would be sufficient, and 64 bit computing isn't a necessity to me (nor is 4 GB of memory), Napa/Yonah should work fine as well.
OT, I knew a girl named Yonah once. I hope the Yonah notebooks are attractive as she was...

Even with my DoD discount, the T42 is just as expensive as a similarly equipped T43. Presumably, the T43 will have better residual value if/when I eBay it.fbrdphreak wrote:If you can find a great deal on a T41 or T42, I'd do it. T43's just aren't worth the money IMO. A nicely loaded T42 can be had for <$1500 from what I understand.
Or just get one of those $500 jobs and wait for a Merom-based Thinkpad
Besides the dual core processor and incrementally higher clock speed, are there any other advantages to waiting for Napa/Yonah?
