Restore factory contents

#1 Post by juancferrer » Thu Jul 01, 2004 11:23 pm

I've got the restore CDs for my T42 (burned them myself).
I disabled the predesktop area/HDA/hidden partition (what's the actual name of it??), and then FDISKed the whole drive. Zero partitions on it right now.
Now i want to use the restore CDs to go back to how it was before.
I've tried to do a "Restore factory contents" when i boot of the start-up CD, and it all goes well until the last CD (#6) is done. The machine restarts, but then it goes back to the restore utility (yes, i did take the CD out). So now i'm stuck in a loop. Everytime i "restore factory contents", i just end up back in the recovery utility. What do i do???? i know i must be doing sothing wrong

The loop will occur only once, after the CDs are copied to the HDD the recovery process starts from the HPA of the HDD you just created.

Yes I admit I made this very same mistake - the second time it asks, what seems to be, the same question - answer 'Yes' and continue - you'll see it's not at all the same, and the factory restore actually continues...

WOW..i have spent ALL day yesterday to get this fixed. I did the "restore factory contents" on the CD 5 times yesterday!!. I think that IBM should clarify that the process is going to continue from the hard drive. Oh well, thank you guys/gals.

Saturday: min 13°C max 20°C light cloud
Sunday : 11°C 23°C a bit cloudier
Monday : 14°C 24°C light cloud
Tuesday : 11°C 25°C thicker cloud

Come on over - naturally if you don't come down to the South West you'll be missing all that's wonderful about France - but then I would say that wouldn't I...

Agree with Ian!

I have been living in Paris for 1yr or so... but the best people of France is defenitly in the south (Occitania). (However, Quartier Latin is were the warmest life is in Paris)
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Cold? Are you mad? This is SUMMER ! Well, ok, so last year we had an extended period of VERY warm weather (This was before I had a car with A/C) but it's unlikely to re-appear this year (hopefully not, in any case)

The Vandée is a very beautiful region of Western France, with La Rochelle the pearl, as they sometimes say. The Atlantic coast can be very 'invigorating' and wild - makes such a change to the Med...

I'm rather sold on the SW part - Toulouse etc. The food's good, the wines are good, the weather's good - what else could one possibly want? (Aha, and I'm slap bang between two IBM service centres - Bordeaux and Toulouse!!)

If anyone from the forum needs any hints for their 'prochaine vacances' - drop me a line - you all know where to find me...

I am studying to become a meteorologist (AtmosMan... get it... atmosphere....yeah, ok) :D . It's funny seeing you guys talk about weather.
It was VERY hot last summer in Europe, France being hit the hardest with the heat wave. We'll see about this year. If it is hot, I don't think it will be as bad as last year. Usually two record breaking summers back to back is very unlikely, but the way things have been going the last 4 or 5 years...who knows.
