I am also having a strange problem involving the SynTPLnr program on a ThinkPad T43. When this file is run at startup, there is a 5-6 second delay when launching any file from within the explorer shell. For instance, after double-clicking on a Word document, there is a 5-6 second delay before the file will open.

After extensive troubleshooting by disabling and then re-enabling all the programs in the startup section of msconfig, I have determined that SynTPLnr is causing this problem.

Try that and post your results. perhaps that will work for you as well.
