Access Connections Version Mismatch Intel 2915ABG Wireless

#1 Post by shfawaz » Sat Oct 01, 2005 7:31 am

I've read many posts in the T-Series forum about issues between Access connections and this Intel 2915ABG card and there are conflicting reports about the latest drivers working with Access connections. I recently upgraded both the drivers and versions of each. I have 9.0.2.31 for the Intel ABG card and Access connections 3.81 on my X41.

When I ask AC to connect I get a message stating that the device driver is incorrectly configured or there is a version mismatch with Thinkvange AC. Refer to installation instructions with network device. You may also need to update AC to the most recent version.

I connect using the Win XP native wireless zero configuration with no problem. I've uninstalled both the drivers and access connections and reinstalled many time with the same result. Fn F5 works just fine.

I would simply toss AC altogether, but I travel alot so multiple profiles are a neccessity. Any ideas or suggestions? Where can I find and download an older driver that may work if nothing else?

I use multiple profiles as well, and that is where Access Connections shines. Here is a possible approach if you have not tried it:

1. Uninstall Access Connections and profiles (keep notes on how to rebuild the profiles).
2. Restart the computer
3. Uninstall the wireless adapter (make sure you have new drivers available).
4. Don't restart if you can avoid it (else the hardware wizard will do a auto install)
5. Install the new network drivers.
6. Restart the computer
7. Install Access Connections

Should work.

I can tell you that Access Connections 3.71 and 3.81 work with the newest and second newest drivers for the IBM 11 a/b/g card *and* the Intel 2200 bg card. I have done all those combinations on three different machines.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I followed your procedure verbatim and deleted all my profiles when I uninstalled, but I'm still getting the same message after I reinstalled the drivers. I did reboot as advised too.

I wonder if I simply need to add the drivers for the abg card instead of using the set-up that comes with the Intel Drivers.

I thought for sure this would work, but I got the same result. I just don't understand how IBM can put out a program like AC and tout it's benefits, but to have it fail to recognize it's own components and drivers.

I have an X31 too, and ever since version 2.7 of AC, every version update of AC crashes upon launch even with the latest network drivers. My T42 works fine with AC, but it uses an IBM wireless card.

shfawaz:

I'm using Access Connections 3.81 and driver version 9.0.2.31 for the Intel 2915ABG card successfully and have had no problems on my X41T, 1866-6SU.

I did have a similar issue between the Client Security software and the fingerprint software that I resolved by uninstalling both programs and then reinstalling them with the new automated "Software Installer". Have you tried using the installer instead of just downloading each utility and running its setup program?

Yes, as a matter of fact, when I initially updated the drivers and Access Connecitons, they came to me via the software installer. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled so many times (not to count reboots) that I'm at a loss to figure out what the problem is. AC is a great program when it works, but it sure needs lots of hand holding to get there, especially when it comes to recognizing and working with new hardware.

It's not AC that has a problem. The problem is that Intel is incompetent at building a proper installer package.

I don't recommend just running an INF update of the device driver through dev manager. You also need to pick up the supplicant so that you get the right version of AEGIS installed.

The problem is that Intel leaves behind miles of garbage in the registry and old files in the system directories.

I recommend calling the help-center and complaining. They probably won't be able to fix you and will just tell you to re-image your system, but if enough people complain it'll help put pressure on Intel to actually fix the problem.
