1400x1050 External LCD Monitors?

#1 Post by rickslate » Sat Oct 01, 2005 3:39 pm

I just purchased a 14" SXGA T43! (2668-72U)

I'd like to buy a 17"-19" LCD monitor to use with the laptop when I'm in the office.

I checked with Dell, Sony, HP, and IBM but nobody seems to make a 1400x1050 screen.

Any suggestions?

you can use another resolution on the external screen ofcourse.

you don`t need to use the 1400x1050 the notebook has on its screen.

I wouldn't want to downgrade resolutions on an external monitor. I love the 1400x1050 resolution.

well, you are in bad luck then I think

you can still get a higher res external screen like 1600x1200 so you upgrade rather than downgrade ;)

Use Higher Res

I use 1400x1050 on my T43p, but 1600x1200 on my external LCD monitor (Viewsonic VP201b) via the port replicator. Presentation Director makes the change of setup easy.

dell offers a widescreen tft featuring a resolution of 1680x1050 (2005FPW). thats at least the same height if thats what you are looking for.

But then you're not running at native resolution on the ThinkPad. Grrrrr... I thought I had this all figured out. :(

Is there any purpose of mirroring rather than just extending the desktop?

you dont have to run native resolution on your thinkpad - if you run tfts (like the display of your thinkpad) with a resolution other than the native one, its looks kinda bad due to interpolation. on an external display however you can use whatever the specs of that display and your graphics card allow.

I don't think you understand what we're saying. You can have an external display on a different resolution than the 1400x1050 that your thinkpad runs on. They don't have to be the same.

i have a different question.
if you buy a wide screen external monitor , seems all the resolution that the ATI card offer for the external monior are 4:3. so how that works out ?
unless i'm wrong and there is a driver or any other way to get a wide screen ratio out of this card ...

@danny_isr

the resolution offered in the control panel ist due to ddc information (i think it is called) of the monitor hooked up to the pc. you might run into problems with automatic recognition on some pcs, but drivers should be provided to avoid that. my dell 2005fpw was instantly recognized by my thinkpad. i was able to choose the native resolution right away.

I would just upgrade and run 1600x1200. That's what I do with an external monitor when using a docking station.
