X30 + Bluetooth Daughter Card (BDC)

#1 Post by sctyboy » Sun Oct 02, 2005 5:46 am

I wanted to add wifi and bluetooth to my X30 (2672-12U) as it didn't come with either (I bought it used, and it was a good deal despite the lack of wireless connections).

I found a BDC (FRU: 12P3872) for $3.99 so I figured I'd start there.

(Link to the BDC: http://www.compuvest.com/Description.js ... iid=130275)

I installed it today, sans antenna, to see if it would work.

No Luck.

The hardware installation was relatively straightforward, keyboard comes off, CDC comes out, BDC goes in.

I fired up the computer, booted to Windows XP hoping for a "new hardware found" but nothing. I thought I might need some software so I grabbed the bluetooth drivers for the X30's with bluetooth and installed those, still no luck.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as far as getting the hardware recognized?

If I can't get the hardware recognized I'm not going to bother with the display plates and antenna, a $20 investment or so.

Is there something in the BIOS I need to change? I couldn't find anything.

If anyone has any ideas I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Ok, I solved my own problem.

Turns out that all I had to do was fire up Access Connections after installing the Bluetooth software. From there, the bluetooth menu becomes activated and I could choose "enable bluetooth radio."

Looks like I can get the antenna and plate set for about 20 bucks delivered from IBM, so for a grand total of about $30 I have added bluetooth!

Couldn't have done it without the information from this site, though.

Thanks!

Does Fn + F5 do anything for you?

I also have a X30 and installed BDC.

Now I want a shortcut to turn it on, but Fn+ F5 doesn't do anything for me.
Then I removed the clear plate (don't worry it's only glued) under the LCD and found a hardware on/off switch for the bluetooth there. It works but you can't reach it when the plates is over. So I'll have to find the correct replacement part.

Did your find the correct replacement part? How do I activate the switch to enable bluetooth? Unfortunatly my Bluetooth Menu in Access Connections isn't activated....
