Ultrabay gap.

Hi, I am sure all of us know about the gap between the top lid and the ultrabay drive. I have a few questions:

Is it done on purpose or was it a mistake? I wonder if there is a reason for it.

Is it on all T4x or only T42/T43?

For sure it helps to dissipate heat... and the T43 well will needs ventilation...
I convinced that it was made in purpose, whether for heat grounds or sound noise, I am not sure... but it is too evident to be a engineering miscalculation.

The ultrabay gap is present on my t41...
I always thought it to accomodate spring/catch on drives...

I played with a friend's T42 that has no ultrabay gap at all, has a tight fitting battery, and none of other manufacturing issues people usually report I hope my T42 is like his when it comes in a week

I have a T42, and the only way it could not have a gap is if they changed the CD-RW/DVD drive bezel. The bezel on mine could never fill in the whole space. I have the stock 13N6771 24/24/8/24 CD-RW/DVD Combo II Drive. Maybe they changed the drive or the bezel on the drive in later models.
