Future of the X series? (X3*, mainly)
Not the Express models, AFAICT.
You can get both CTO and standard models, though...
tabook only shows a few X32s, none of them Express.
Last issue, it showed a crapload of X32s. It also showed a few X31s that it no longer shows.
I think the X32 IS getting phased out...

"By the way, Lenovo sent an email back to me and said the IBM X30 series (X30, X31, X32 ...) will never have APS installed, don't ask me why, they say they will keep updating the series and not kill it but that it will never have APS. It must just not be compatible with their design approach for this model, or it's a way for them to differentiate the X40 series."
on 10/3/2005. So maybe it is getting a refresh?

I love it when manufacturers claim to know better what I want/need. It is in every field of the technology.
It's like cameras in cell phones. I don't need it, but go and try to find a phone without them.
I'm looking at the german IBM site as we speak. Only 3 X32 models left, the rest is X40.
Oh well. I hope that some resellers will have some boxes left in their stock by the time I'm ready to get one.

Well my X32 configuration doesn't come cheap... almost 27000SEK incl VAT (US$ 3850) But it's still less than I paid for my X30 in 2002

FWIW, I have been using an X22 and an X31 for the past 3-4 years as my only computer. I have been using them on my lap, sitting or lying on the couch (45 degrees), moving to the kitchen table etc. Their HDD has therefore been submitted to all kind of accelations and shocks. Neither machine has APS and I haven't had any trouble with the HDD. So is APS really that much of a big deal?@RT wrote:This is from Abaxter of notebookreview.com:Lenovo said the IBM X30 series (X30, X31, X32 ...) will never have APS installed

From what I've heard (don't have it, so I can't say), APS can be more of an annoyance - move the lappy, and it triggers. (Granted, APS CAN sometimes help...)
Besides, APS couldn't have helped in my situation - my HDD was powered down, and modern drives autopark, right?

Reading someone's X32 review over at NotebookReview.com:
More reassurance... Note that they even said NEW VERSIONS.
X33, here I come!
Now, the first question is... what GPU will it have? The only improvements they could possibly do are GPU and chipset.
The new chipset seems like the first thing they'd have to do, so it'd be an i915. Then, would they use integrated graphics, or throw an X300 in there?
The only problem I could see with an X33? Four digits. 2010.
Edit: I was *THIS* close to getting Lenovo confirmation of the X33, from Google (a lenovo.com.cn article on the X series history was the first result for thinkpad x33), but it was a typo. They meant X22 (I could tell, as they said that it added infrared, which the X20 and 21 didn't have).
Edit 2: With personalized search on, my blog was the second result. Amazingly, it's still 19th with it off (because it mentions X33, and it mentions ThinkPad a LOT.)
(my bolding)[update 7/8/2005: Lenovo representatives informed NotebookReview.com that customers shoud have "no concerns about the future of the X30 series for some time to come in terms of new version or service & support"]
