Rescue and Recovery Problem

#1 Post by Zephyrious » Sun Oct 02, 2005 3:13 pm

I'm really really frustrated with this... I keep trying to make recovery media on my T40 and I just can't seem to get where the instructions tell me to go.. On thinkvantage 'create recovery media' all I can do is create a collection of files that will boot up Rescue and recovery... but there's NO OPTION to create recovery discs. I need to change the HDD and it doesn't seem like there's any way to move that Hidden partition over.. Can someone please help me?

I either need to use Rescue and Recovery or another method to move that hidden partition to the new hard drive, but I can't get rescue and recovery to do this as of yet. Thanks everyone I hope one of you can help me out..

Matt.

I believe if you make a base backup with R&R to CD/R's or DVD+-R's, and you make a Recovery Media CD, then you can put your new hard drive in the ThinkPad and boot up from the Recovery Media. Next choose to restore your system.

EDIT: Above I mentioned 'Recovery Media CD' and in a later post I called it 'Rescue Media CD'. It seems even Lenovo is confused. Previously when I had IBM R&R version 1, I had (2) choices: Create Rescue Media and Create Recovery Discs. Now that I have ThinkVantage R&R version 3, I have the choice to Create Recovery Media which opens up to a page that says Create Rescue Media. :?

Note that you can make a Rescue Media CD whenever you want. You are only allowed to make (1) copy of the Recovery Disc set. If you have made a Recovery Disc set already, the software will not allow you to make another.

If the above method doesn't work for you, I've read on these forums that you can use Acronis True Image to image the complete existing drive to the new drive. Norton Ghost should work as well, but you need to set a command line switch. See link.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't made a recovery CD set yet, but I bought the T40 from my old boss, and I suspect he did. I guess I can call him up for them, but if norton ghost will work, then I'll try that method first. Thanks for all your help, any other solutions would be greatly appreciated (i.e. is there any way to 'trick' the system into making a new set of cd's for me...:P)
