"IBM automated solutions" error

#1 Post by pae77 » Mon Oct 03, 2005 1:08 am

When I boot up my T42p while XP is loading, I frequently get the following message (or something pretty close) in a window:

"IBM Automated Solutions

This automated solution is only for IBM computers. This automated solution cannot run."

Does anyone have any idea what this might be referring to? My machine is pretty new and running the factory preload on the original hard drive.

It sounds like the IBM software can't identify your machine as an IBM. Most likely cause - no model or S/N info in BIOS.

If you run the Thinkpad Configuration or Access IBM, does it display your model and Serial Number?

If not, I'd get on the phone to IBM - if it's not there it cause problems.

Model and serial number are correctly displayed in TP Configuration and in Bios.

It might be related to IBM eGatherer. There is a file called egather2.exe located at;
C:\Program Files\IBM ThinkVantage\Common\eGatherer\egather2.exe

I don't know much about it, but you may search IBM's site for more info. I did see one other post on this site recently regarding eGatherer.
