quick question about the new Software Installer

Hi. I just bought a T43 and I ran the "IBM software installer" and it works well. I noticed that someone on this forum posted the availability of the "new Software Installer" at this url -

Now my questions are -

1. Do I need to uninstall the old "IBM Software Installer" before I install the "new Software Installer"?
2. Can I install the new software installer from within the old "IBM Software Installer"?
3. Is the new Software Installer worth getting?

If you haven't installed any version of Software Installer, then just use the link you referenced and install that one to start with. Once you have it running (or you have any version of Software Installer currently installed), it will tell you whether a later version is available when it connects to the support site, and handle the upgrading to it.

In my experience, once Software Installer has decided there is a new version available, you have no choice but to upgrade to it.

my computer came preinstalled with software installer version 2.52.0501 and I believe the the URL above is for version 3.10.0504.

I'm afraid of messing the update sequence data if I manually uninstall and install the software installer. Is there a way to install/upgrade software installer from within software installer? When I select "Install or upgrade driver(s) or software", it does not give me the option to install the newer version of software installer...

Beats me! I'm running 3.10.0508, which Software Installer upgraded me to automagically not too long ago.

I had a look at the "install.log" file and can see that the installations for Software Installer itself are not recorded there, as the log goes back to June and I know I've been through a number of Software Installer automagic updates since then.
