Opinions 14.1"/15" Flexview.
I now have both, a GEU and KXU and I can not say anything bad about either. Maybe a few cosmetic complaints, but certainly not worth mentioning. After having the Flexview only since yesterday there is no going back. Working at my desk is a pleasure in that one can move his head to say answer the phone and never lose your place, everything looks the same. My GEU on the other hand looks great if you can always focus straight on and it is not all that objectionable at other angles. Just the Flexview is really great. The 15" model is not noticeably heavier or larger in my opinion, but is certainly sturdier/ no flex. Also mine came with the 9 cell Sanyo and it fits perfectly snug, every bit as tight as the Sony in the GEU.Everything worked right out of the box.

Thanks mrbjr!
These are the views I most appreciate when it comes to rate the 14" vs. the 15". These reviews where the reviewer had or has both notebooks to compare side to side.

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)

It will, of course, always be a matter of personal taste. For me, I got the T42 14", and I couldn't be happier. For form factor, I had already made a compromise, as the X form factor was/is more to my liking. But, as a single machine/power user, I need the features of the T. However, I wouldn't want it one ounce heavier or 1/2" bigger. And, although I haven't seen a 15" Flexview screen, I am very happy with the screen and viewing angle that my T42 has. So, the T42 14" was/is the best compromise for me. It's the best laptop that I ever had.
First the screen is perfect....no stuck/dead (pixies) Ian
.
Leon, you are absolutely right, I would never have been unhappy with the 14.1". Just much happier with the Flexview. I also know all of this is subjective,, eye of the beholder and such, but it is not enough heavier or larger to make any real world difference IMO. I will say again though, the 15" is a much sturdier machine. again IMO/ YMMV

I have both the 14" SXGA+ (T41p) and 15" UXGA (T42p). Both screens are great. Of course the viewing angle on the T42p is better, but I never a trouble with the T41p. Main difference I notice is the T41p screen is cooler as far as colors are concerned (a little bluer) while the T42p is warmer (with more orange/red colors). I also do not notice any ghosting or shadowing on the T42p. I have run a few games as well as the 3DMark test side by side. Both screens look great.

I should clarify, the 14.1 is a very sharp and clear screen, one of the best. I've been using a 15.0 screen for the last two years and it's hard going to the 14.1 once you are used to the 15.0.Hangfire wrote:Congrats on the flexview! I've got a 14.1 but sending it back and stepping up to the 15.0 flex. Do you have any dead or stuck pixels on the flex?

I have to admit that I was surprised when I saw for myself the glaring shadowing issues. I can barely see it anywhere other than the ATT webmail site and even then I would not have noticed it or think it was part of the design
. In the fastest motion games involving dark maps, ghosting is apparent, but you can't read fine text in any LCD while scrolling, which to me is more bothersome, so I dont see a big problem in it.
Compare this to an older Dell Lattitude C510 I've seen where you could clearly see the previous frame in each new frame! Making it unuseable for any game; this is nothing like the ghosting in a Flexview. The flexview so far has been as useable in "daylight" games as my CRT, I don't play many FPS where high-contrast/dark maps are used so I admit that some gamers may find issues there. But thankfully it is something you can learn to forget quickly and not just plain useless.

I will say that my 14 in KTU has a wider viewing angle than my 2 year older Sony 15in screen. I also know that if my letters were any smaller I wouldn't be able to see them easily. Granted that I can play with the fonts, not every program will take advantage of that. So as a compromise I am using my 14 inch lightweight on a thinkdock 2 with a 21inch 1600x1200 flat panel screen and external IBM keyboard. Just right for coding many hours of the day. I placed a second 7200rpm 60gig drive from my old laptop in the think dock so I have a stay at home backup when I have to travel to client sites (almost always out of state). I'm really impressed with the TPs quality too.
BTW my DVD-RAM was acting up and I called them at 5pm (eastern) yesterday and a new one arrived at 9:30 this morning. Can't beat support like that.
