Stolen T43 considering T42

#1 Post by john 86 » Tue Oct 04, 2005 5:08 am

Some lowlife has stollen my T43 26684DM.
It needs replacment and I am considering a T42 2373K5M for a couple of reasons.
1 I want to install a 100g hard drive
2 There seems to be some variability in the amount of fan noise and overall quality. (my T43 was fine )
but first a couple of questions
1 The vendors weebsite shows the video card of the T42 2373K5M as a 32 mb 9600 (not 64) is this just a mistake or did any T42 2373K5M s come with only 32 MB of video.
2 I run dragon dictate. Will I notice any practical speed difference between the T43 (1.8) and the T42(1.7)
Thanks John

It's a mistake, you can't get a 32MB 9600....

Specs for the 2373K5M:

P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

Good model.... :)
(2373-G3G) T40p/P-M 1.6GHz/1GB/60GB/14.1 SXGA/64MB ATI Fire GL 9000/CDRW-DVD/Cisco 802.11b/WinXP Pro SP2

(2373-8TG) T42/P-M 735/1GB/40GB/14.1 XGA/32MB ATI Radeon 7500/CDRW-DVD/Intel 802.11bg/WinXP Pro SP2

I got my new T42 today to replace the stollen T43.
The initiall impression (after only an hour or so ) is
It is much quieter, with much less hot air out of the fan holes, not that the noise bothered mewith the T43.
It feels slighly better made- The trackpad buttons are more possitive for example.
I hanvn't loaded any intensive applications (like dragon dictate 8) yet so I dont have an impression of the lost speed. Hopefully I wont be too disapointed, but I can afford more RAM and perhaps a 7200 hard drive with the money saved which should help make up the difference.
Any comments abot my decsion (good or bad ) appreciated.
Cheers John
