Got static today and my Thinkpad shut down suddenly!

#1 Post by jlingo » Tue Oct 04, 2005 8:03 am

I just had the scariest experience with my T43p today. My home is with marbel floor. I was sitting on my dest but my feet was touching the ground. I was inserting my PCMCIA Microdrive into the slot and then I felt there was some sort of electricity or static running through my finger, and ZAP! my thinkpad turned off, I lost things that I work on!! I was in shock for the moment afraid there could be problems with the hardware. Anyone has experienced this before?

Does not take much static electricity applied in the right place to rake havoc with a computer. Have you restarted your computer, is all working now?

Everything seems fine, but I wouldn't know for sure since I can't really test every single part of the computer. but so far getting online, bluetooth? working. I have to still test each component one by one.

I had a Dell CPI years ago that I used to zap with static on a regular basis. I was always surprised to see that it never had problems after.

I think it all depends on how well they protect the circuitry, and also if it is plugged in or not.
