My T41p is here Woo hoo!!! BUT......
OK today my new T41p has arrived. I purchased it on e-bay, new in box and 3 year IBM warranty.
It looks just like my T42 fvu. So excited.
One thing that I noticed was that the 7k60 HD is fast but it make more noise than 100GB seagate HD which is 5400 rpm. I think I will replace the HD with the 5400 rpm since I like it to be very quite. Screen is nice and bright and I did not notice any dead pixels yet.
So I am trying to create the a set of recovery disks by going to access IBM. There is no option for "create rescue media or recovery disks". Odd. So I called IBM and the tech says that there is no rescue media for T41p. Only for T42 and up. Hmmm... I was not sure I am supposed to believe him. Anyways I was having few problems with my X24 so they are going send someone to replace the systemboard on Friday. That was really nice of him.
Well so far so good. But does anyone know if it is possible to make rescue media from T41p? And if so how? Also is it the same rescue media that is used for T42? I have a set for T42 so if they are supposed to be the same then I will not bother about it.

The T41p rescue used HPA while the T42 uses WinPE. They both are different. T42 rescue works on T41 and has more recent drivers updates, xp-sp2 etc...
but security wise the HPA is more rigid than the winpe version.
If you want to burn recovery cds for a T41, then you have to follow the method someone described earlier, about first disabling the parition, then manually using a imaging software to pick files the partition.
There is also a prescribed ibm method, which lets you backup different psa areas, using fwbackup and restore them back using fwrestore. IMHO it might be easier to do a clean install and then back up the image of the parition just before it reboots for the final time.

rssb,
Thanks for the useful information. I am going to do a clean install. I have been doing that for all the computers that I buy. I just do not like a lot of the stuff that are installed by default.
If the T42 rescue disk works for the T41p then I should not have to worry about it. Right now I replaced the 60GB 7200 rpm drive with 100GB 5400.2 segate drive. It is so much quieter. I am sure it is not as fast but I am sure it will be worth it.
I will be using the 60GB hard drive as a back up with external casing. It may seem like a waste of 7200 rpm harddrive but I am sure it will be heck of a fast back up. ^^
Thanks again for the information.

daeojkim,
I seen you in Ebay as the high bidder for the T41P, I was considering placing a bid, but I figured I didn't want to start a war. But anyway, I am currently also looking for a T41P. So, first impressions, are you really pleased with the computer?

dc81,
I am very very pleased with the computer. It is just like T42 that I have. It has all the specs that I was looking for in terms of processing power, screen and battery size, video card, bluetooth, 3 year IBM warranty, etc.
I needed something that I could carry around with large enough screen with high resolution. This is really perfect.
One thing that I did comment above was that the 7k60 hard drive that it comes with is noisy (this is subjective, but compared to seagate 5400.2 and the 5400 rpm in T42 it was a lot noisier so I alrady replaced with the seagate and sooooo quiet). I plan to use the spare HD as an external HD to store personal stuff (p*rn LOL)
One downside is b wireless, but I am gonna change with IBM b/g card, which I already have. It also has Banias core instead of Dothan, but I am sure it will not noticeable at all, and I will be able to upgrade to 2+ GHz Dothan processor in the future if I decide to.
Overall, I believe it is a better buy than many T42 out there since T41p comes with 7200 rpm HD, bluetooth, and 128MB FireGL graphic card.
I am sorry that I had to take this from you. It looked like you were the other bidder, but I needed a new computer desperately.
One one side I wish you had not bid then I would have saved 50 bucks
, but then again thanks for not going crazy with the bid.
If you wait I am sure you will find some new T41p on ebay. Just wait until the right one comes along. I waited about 2 weeks before a resonable one came along.
One suggestions is that, unless you need a T43p I would stay away from it for now. I hear it is a lot noisier than T42/p and I am sure the price difference does not justify the difference in performance.
^^

I think I'll pass. You got a good deal though. Had I gotten it for that, I would be quite happy, but since the other one came along and I really did want a T42p, it worked out ok for me too. I was hoping to save some money, but in the end I got something I really wanted with some unexpected extras included that I wouldn't have gotten from Lenovo directly!!
Enjoy your new laptop, mine's coming tomorrow!!

@daeojkim,
In my T41, my 60Gb drive is silent (and the fan is quiet most of the time). I also migrated to the Dothan processor a while back, and the combination of the 7200-rpm drive, the Dothan processor and lots of ram makes it a very speedy machine. Every bit as fast as my NetVista A30 desktop in most applications. ... JD Hurst

jdhurst,
The HD that came with with the T41p was HTS726060M9AT00 (IBM P/N 13N6799)
I am not sure if it is the same 7200 rpm drive as the one you have but it was definitely much noisier than seagate 5400.2. It made a lot of kriiik kriik sound when it was reading the drive. may be there is something wrong with it?
Abot Dothan processor, I am not sure how much it is faster than the Banias but so far I am not complaining.
Oh I think I got non-Thai keyboard. It is not as nice as the one that came inthe T42 and it is definitely noisier wen i type. I think people may get annoyed during lecture when I type. Is it possible to ask IBM for a replacement keyboard? I will send mine back and I would love get a Thai keyboard.
