Max. external resolution for T43?

#1 Post by pipspeak » Tue Oct 04, 2005 3:58 pm

I searched but could not find a straight answer... what is the maximum external display resolution supported by the Radeon X300 video card in a T43 via DVI through a port replicator? Can it go up to UXGA without special drivers?

Thanks.

I'm a relative newbie with thinkpads (just got mine recently) so I don't have definitive answers for you, but these threads may help...

Thanks for the links (I saw them all too) but they all refer to T4Xp models that have higher-end graphics cards. Still don't know about the lower-end X300 card.

Can anyone help? ATI's website quoted high resolutions for the X300 but I can find no setting higher than SXGA on the T43.

This is what I think........................

The ATI Mobility Radeon X300 will support resolutions up to the following: From ATI's site.
* Flexible and easy-to-use interface for multiple display settings
* LCD-EE™ display engine allows for support of the latest high resolution and wide-screen notebook displays such as WUXGA (1920x1200) and QXGA (2048x1536).
* 165 MHz integrated TMDS transmitter, for support of DVI Digital Flat Panels at up to UXGA resolution (1600x1200)
* Integrated TV-Out Encoder
* Dual RAMDACs at speeds of 400MHz
* Integrated HDTV encoder, supporting component output (YPbPr) for both North American and Japanese D-link connectors
In other words, the ATI graphics engine is able to support up to WUXGA (1920x1200) and QXGA (2048x1536) resolutions for analog displays, and UXGA resolution (1600x1200) for digital displays. If you install the external monitor software and plug in the monitor, the ATI video adapter will list the available modes for that monitor up to the above limits.

OK, so the UXGA option is not showing up on the T43 because no UXGA driver is installed. Thanks.

Can someone confirm that their X300 T43 will drive UXGA via DVI (before I plunk down $$$ on a new monitor)?

All I know that on my plain ol' T40 I was able to drive a Dell 2405w monitor at 1920x1200 through the DVI on my mini-dock/port replicator (using the onboard ATI Radeon 7500 with only 32mb). I'm sure yours can easily do the same.

just make sure to have unchecked on monitor settings "hide modes that this monitor cannot display"
