T21 - Is it worth the hassle?

#1 Post by Rosey » Fri Jul 02, 2004 3:19 pm

Bought a Thinkpad T21 on eBay from a reseller of refurbs. This P3-800 will be used by my wife for email via a web interface and memos etc via Word. Not much else. The unit that I got was very clean but only has a screen resolution of 1024x768. According to the auction, the screen should have a resolution of 1400x1050. I contacted the reseller and they shipped me the wrong version and will offer an exchange if I wanna box my unit back up and return it.

My question is - considering the limited uses this unit will have, the fact that the unit I got was in good condition etc. - is there a compelling reason to return it for the higher resolution.?

I know the old "if your happy thats all that matters" response. I am specifically looking for Thinkpad specific issues that might push me to keep this unit or return it. In other words, does the higher res have a history of pixel problems, or vice versa, the higher res one runs hotter - or had fan problems etc. I just don't wanna trade a bird in the hand for something that looks better spec wise but was a problem for IBM.

thanks for your help

I would exchange it. There are no issues with the SXGA+ screen on the T-series.

The only downside is that some SW that runs at 1024x768 (certain games) - will look better on the XGA. I have both types of screens on machines and I only use the SXGA+ screens.

Rosey,

The T21 with the SXGA+ display is a premium machine for which you undoubtedly paid a premium price.

The XGA T21 is worth substantially less, so either send it back or get a price adjustment from the seller.
