T43 LCD screen - 2different portions?

#1 Post by skysky1983 » Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:26 am

hi! i have just bought a t43 few days ago.. today i just discovered that my XGA 14.1 inch screen seem like to be in 2portions which is the upper and the lower parts. the upper portion will show a deeper blue while the lower part will show a lighter blue screen..

is it a defect? or most of the xga screen are like that?

Is there a really defined line between the two 'halves,' or is it just a sort of gradient?

If it's just a gradient, then might just be the effect of the backlight that you're seeing. The LCD backlight is at the bottom, so colours there tend to be paler and kind of washed out compared to the top. At least, it was like that on my T42. I never paid attention to what it looked like on a blue background, though.

I would exchange it, especially you have just received the laptop. Sometimes I wonder, Isn't IBM supposed to test every single component of their laptop before shipping, so it should be problem free since IBM costs more than other laptops. I would pay more for the laptop knowing that it has been thoroughly tested and are problems' free.

I think they would need a small army to test every single Tpad. They probably do a certain percentage. My first t42 had major issue it went back in 5 days. Shipping could be a weak link in the chain also.
Don't know if you all have ever seen the Jim Cary movie Pet Detective or not but he portrays a UPS guy at the very beginning and is tossing the box up in the air, using it to hold open elevator doors, it is clearly marked fragile. I think there may be some UPS and other shippers who do this in real life. Just a thought... :)

XGA LCD Brightness -Differences

#6 Post by gattler » Sun Oct 09, 2005 1:27 am

One Question: Are there differences between the XGA Displays in the T-Series. i need something nice to my eyes, but i wonder if SXGA/Flexview is not too small - want XGA but with nice contrast-ratio, viewing angle, etc...

help wanted!

UPS is LEGENDARY for package abuse. Go look at the UPS Horror Stories thread over in Off Topic Stuff.

FedEx is the same way, though.

All shipping companies are legendary for package abuse. There are websites devoted to FedEx and DHL as well.

DHL gets extra heat because it's tracking system is so pathetic.

Ah, yes, I forgot about that...

I've never seen any ABUSE from DHL, but both times I've gotten packages from DHL, they've come a day late.

Compared to my most recent UPS experience, where the package was in pristine condition, and came a day early.

In other words, I was able to get my ThinkPad back up and running Friday evening, instead of Monday evening.
